Stars shining bright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper "i love you"
Birds singin' in the sycamore trees
Dream a little dream of me

drive-ins

Reminder to self: I want to go see a movie at a drive-in before they disappear forever.

FNL

Friday Night Lights is the first TV show that I've ever watched from start to finish, and then rewatched immediately from start to finish again. It's just that good. Prior to discovering this series I didn't think that I was even capable of doing something like that.

Last weekend, a rainless Sunday finally rolled around and I took a half-day trip to The Getty Center museum in LA. It was a mistake to go on President's Day weekend - parking took over an hour and I ended up only having a few hours leftover to visit before they closed. The museum itself caught me pleasantly by surprise. It's situated at the top of a hill (requiring a short tram ride) in a really expansive and beautiful outdoor environment. The buildings were all white and made of concrete, with high ceilings, stairs, and several fountains scattered throughout providing a sort of relaxing background ambience. They also had an immaculately groomed garden that completely reminded me of the maze in Harry Potter 4. It was one of those places where attempting to photograph it just felt completely futile.

Their art collection surprised me as well. California has way too many lackluster museums that I think have collectively lowered my expectations each time I visit a new museum, yet here I found myself spending about 2 hours in just one wing of the complex (out of 4? or 5) viewing their classical art collection. I know next to nothing about art, but I found myself standing in front of some pieces for upwards of half an hour, lost in thought. I don't even think I did that at the Louvre.

I stayed there about a half hour past closing (as long as I could, before the guards started giving me looks), and decided to walk down the hill instead of taking the tram. The air was cool and crisp, but not cold - I felt awake and alive, invigorated, at peace. It was a good way to round out the weekend.

Pictures are here.

take me to the place where you gooo-oh

I don't want to leave work because I don't want to stop listening to this song.

And so, Sally can wait
She knows it's too late as we're walking on by
Her soul slides away
But don't look back in anger
I heard you say

woot super bowl!... not

I was planning on going to the The Getty today to take some pictures with my new 50mm lens but it's raining. D:

I've been taking a lot of weird naps at odd hours recently. Most of them start out with me lying on the bed watching something on TV, and then the next thing I know I'm waking up lying sideways on my bed with my TV in sleep mode, and feeling completely confused about what time/day it is and what I was in the middle of doing. Falling asleep to the TV is kind of therapeutic in a sense, sometimes I can't stand lying down and not being able to fall asleep, and I've found that these "accidental naps" often end up feeling more restful.

Been working on a few piano transcriptions, I'll post some videos later.

Cooking something and then watching my roommates scarf it down is really satisfying.

chili

I tried cooking Texas-style chili (read: lots of meat) today for the first time. It actually ended up tasting pretty good - I finished it all - but I somehow couldn't get it to have that reddish, pasty look that makes chili look so appetizing. I was going to post pictures but I think I'll hold off until I get it to look right.

Conservation efforts: 1) always turn off my lights when I'm not around, 2) turn off my computer at night and when I'm at work. It's not much, but it's more than what I used to do.

I recorded myself doing Hard guitar on Green Grass & High Tides in Rock Band. This is the most fun I've had in a video game in a while. Don't even want to imagine what this song is like on Expert. @_@

your hand in mine

Explosions in the Sky is a phenomenal band. I tried to write something to describe their stratospheric levels of awesomeness but in the end I couldn't do it justice. Here's a video instead.
